Delhi Crosses One Lakh EV Registrations Under New Government

Delhi has crossed a significant milestone in its journey towards cleaner mobility, with more than one lakh electric vehicles registered since the new government took charge, according to a statement by a Delhi minister. The announcement highlights a sharp rise in electric vehicle adoption in the national capital and reflects the government’s renewed focus on sustainable transportation and pollution reduction.
Delhi Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that the surge in registrations has come after the Bharatiya Janata Party assumed power, crediting policy direction and administrative push for the growing numbers. He also pointed out that electric vehicle adoption had suffered earlier due to limited incentives and lack of focused implementation, which the current government aims to correct through stronger support mechanisms.
The rise in EV registrations aligns with Delhi’s broader efforts to combat air pollution, a persistent challenge for the city. With transport emissions contributing significantly to poor air quality, the shift towards electric two wheelers, three wheelers, cars and buses is being seen as a key solution. The government has been expanding charging infrastructure and increasing the number of electric buses in public transport to make EV usage more practical for daily commuters.
Industry observers note that Delhi has emerged as one of the leading regions in India when it comes to electric mobility, supported by growing consumer awareness and improving infrastructure. The increase in registrations also mirrors a national trend, as electric vehicles gain wider acceptance due to lower running costs and environmental benefits.
