The rapid rise of fantasy cricket influencer Anurag Dwivedi has taken a dramatic turn after the Enforcement Directorate initiated action against him in an alleged illegal betting and money laundering case. Dwivedi, who built a massive following on social media by offering fantasy cricket tips and match predictions, became a well known name among young cricket fans in a remarkably short span of time.
According to investigating agencies, the influencer is accused of promoting illegal betting platforms under the guise of fantasy sports content. Authorities allege that his online reach was used to attract users to unauthorised betting applications, earning him substantial income through promotions and referral based commissions. These earnings are now under scrutiny, with officials suspecting that a portion of the funds may have been routed through illegal channels.
As part of the investigation, the Enforcement Directorate carried out searches at multiple locations linked to Dwivedi and seized high value assets, including luxury vehicles and financial documents. The agency believes these assets may represent proceeds of crime generated through unlawful betting activities. Bank accounts and financial transactions connected to him and his associates are also being examined under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The case has drawn public attention not only because of the scale of the alleged financial irregularities but also due to Dwivedi’s sudden rise in wealth and lifestyle. From a modest background, he showcased luxury cars, international travel and a lavish lifestyle on social media, which further fueled curiosity and debate around the source of his income. Investigators are also probing possible overseas investments and links to betting syndicates operating outside India.
The action against Dwivedi highlights growing regulatory concern around the misuse of fantasy gaming and social media influence to promote illegal betting. While fantasy sports platforms operate legally under specific frameworks, authorities have repeatedly warned against crossing the line into gambling and betting activities. This case serves as a reminder that digital fame and influence do not place individuals beyond the reach of the law.
