As air quality in Delhi slips deeper into the severe category, authorities have activated a fresh round of emergency anti pollution measures that directly affect commuters, offices and anyone planning to enter the capital. From today, stricter vehicle restrictions, mandatory work from home norms and fuel related checks are in force as part of the highest level response to curb toxic air.
One of the most significant steps is the restriction on vehicle entry into the city. Non compliant and older vehicles registered outside Delhi are not allowed to enter, while only cleaner BS VI compliant, electric and CNG vehicles are permitted. Border checkpoints have been reinforced to ensure the rule is followed, and violators risk fines or seizure. The move is aimed at cutting down emissions from high polluting vehicles that add to the already dangerous smog levels.
Fuel stations across the capital are also enforcing a tough rule that directly impacts daily drivers. Vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control certificate are being denied fuel. This measure targets poorly maintained vehicles that emit excessive pollutants and ensures that only compliant vehicles are allowed to operate on Delhi roads. Motorists are being urged to carry valid documents to avoid inconvenience.
To reduce the number of vehicles on the road, both government and private offices have been instructed to shift to a work from home or hybrid model. Only half of the staff is allowed to work from offices, while the rest must operate remotely. Essential services remain exempt, but for most workplaces this means fewer daily commutes and lower traffic emissions during peak hours.
Schools in several areas continue to remain closed or operate with restrictions due to health concerns, especially for children and elderly residents. Construction activities and the entry of certain heavy vehicles have also been curtailed, adding another layer to the emergency response.
