Visually, the Sierra stands out immediately with its bold and upright stance, wide shoulder lines and signature design elements that subtly reference the original model. It works well in city traffic, offering linear power delivery and decent efficiency, but it does feel underpowered when the vehicle is fully loaded or during quick highway overtakes. The highlight, however, is the new 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine, which completely changes the character of the Sierra. With strong torque delivery and quick acceleration, this engine makes highway driving effortless and enjoyable. Overtaking is easy, cruising speeds are maintained comfortably and the engine feels refined even at higher speeds. This turbo petrol unit finally gives Tata a strong petrol performance option that can compete confidently with rivals in this segment.
Ride quality is another strong area for the Sierra. The suspension is tuned for comfort, absorbing bad roads and broken surfaces well, while still maintaining stability at higher speeds. Steering response is light in the city and reasonably confident on highways, though enthusiastic drivers may find it lacking in feedback. Overall, the Sierra is clearly designed to be a comfortable long-distance cruiser rather than a sporty SUV.
Where the Sierra does raise some concerns is long-term reliability and usability of its technology-heavy setup. With touch-based controls, advanced driver assistance systems and multiple digital interfaces, there is a learning curve involved. Buyers who prefer physical buttons and simpler controls may find this overwhelming. Additionally, as a relatively new model with fresh engines and electronics, long-term reliability is something that only time will confirm.
