The second generation of the Ducati DesertX has been officially unveiled, bringing with it a comprehensive set of updates that redefine Ducati’s middleweight adventure offering. The latest version introduces a new V2 engine, an updated chassis and refined electronics, signaling a major evolution for the Italian brand’s off road focused machine.
At the heart of the new DesertX sits an 890 cc V2 engine that delivers 110 horsepower and 92 Nm of torque. Ducati has tuned the motor to provide strong low and mid range performance, making it more usable across a wide variety of terrains. A significant portion of the torque is available at lower engine speeds, which enhances control during technical off road riding while still ensuring confident highway cruising. Revised gear ratios further improve versatility, with shorter lower gears for tricky trails and a taller top gear for relaxed long distance touring.
The chassis has been reengineered around a new aluminium monocoque frame that uses the engine as a stressed member. This approach increases structural rigidity while helping keep weight under control. Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable KYB components, offering generous travel to tackle demanding terrain. The front provides 230 mm of travel while the rear delivers 220 mm, ensuring the DesertX remains capable on rough trails. The bike retains its 21 inch front and 18 inch rear wheel combination, a setup favored by serious adventure riders for improved off road capability.
Braking performance comes from Brembo hardware, delivering strong and progressive stopping power. The DesertX also continues to focus on rider comfort and ergonomics. Ducati has revised the handlebar, footpeg and seat positioning to create a more balanced riding stance that works well both while seated on highways and standing during off road sections. The redesigned fuel tank holds 18 litres and has been shaped to improve weight distribution and ease of movement for the rider.
Technology plays a central role in the new DesertX. It features a six axis inertial measurement unit that supports advanced rider aids such as cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and engine brake management. Riders can choose from six riding modes that tailor the bike’s behavior to different environments, ranging from sporty road settings to dedicated rally configurations for off road adventures. The digital display provides clear access to these settings along with essential ride information.
