Three people were injured after a car collided with a motorcycle on the Maa Flyover in Kolkata highlighting once again the growing safety concerns on one of the city’s busiest elevated roads. The accident occurred during evening hours when traffic movement was steady and vehicles were heading towards the southern part of the city.
According to initial reports the motorcycle was travelling along the flyover when it was hit by a speeding car. The impact threw the bike off balance causing serious injuries to the two riders while the car rammed into the divider moments later. Passersby rushed to help and alerted emergency services as traffic came to a temporary halt following the collision.
The injured were quickly shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed that while their condition was serious they were out of immediate danger. The car driver sustained minor injuries and was questioned by the police at the spot. Authorities later cleared the damaged vehicles to restore traffic flow which had been disrupted for a brief period.
Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Overspeeding reckless driving and lack of lane discipline are being examined as possible factors. Officials have also pointed out that this stretch of the Maa Flyover has witnessed several accidents in recent months raising questions about road design enforcement and the need for stronger safety measures.
