India achieved a record milestone in electric vehicle sales in calendar year 2025 with total registrations reaching around 2.27 million units. This represents a year on year growth of more than sixteen percent and highlights the rapid adoption of electric mobility across the country. All four major segments including two wheelers three wheelers passenger cars and commercial vehicles recorded their highest ever annual sales reflecting a strong and balanced growth across the industry.
Electric two wheelers continued to dominate the market driven by urban demand affordability and improving battery range and charging options. Three wheelers also showed strong growth as fleet operators increasingly shift to electric vehicles for last mile transportation and delivery services. Passenger cars and SUVs recorded sharp increases as more models became available and expanding charging infrastructure made electric vehicles more practical for everyday use. Commercial electric vehicles also reached new highs with businesses adopting electric options for city logistics and cargo movement.
Experts attribute this surge to improved product offerings competitive pricing supportive government policies and growing awareness of the total cost of ownership benefits of electric vehicles. The adoption of EVs is no longer limited to metropolitan areas but is spreading to smaller cities and towns. Uttar Pradesh emerged as one of the top performing states in EV registrations during the year.
