Alvaro Bautista Opens the Door for MotoGP Riders in World Superbikes

Alvaro Bautista has played a key role in making the Superbike World Championship an attractive option for riders leaving MotoGP. After departing MotoGP at the end of 2018 Bautista joined World Superbikes with Ducati and quickly proved his potential by winning back to back world titles in 2022 and 2023. His success demonstrated that riders could continue to achieve at the highest level outside the premier class.

Bautista has said that his decision to switch championships helped show other riders that World Superbikes is a professional and competitive environment. Since his move several former MotoGP riders have taken up rides in Superbikes and the series has seen a rise in both talent and competition. Riders such as Somkiat Chantra Miguel Oliveira and Jake Dixon have joined the championship in 2026 bringing further excitement and attention to the sport.

According to Bautista the growing presence of former MotoGP riders has strengthened the championship and created new opportunities for both competitors and fans.
