Turkish racing star Toprak Razgatlioglu has openly admitted that his natural aggressive riding style is proving to be a challenge as he adjusts to life in MotoGP with Yamaha. Known worldwide for his fearless late braking and bold overtakes in World Superbike racing, Toprak is now facing a completely different technical and strategic environment in motorcycle racing’s premier category.
Razgatlioglu built his reputation by pushing superbikes to their absolute limit, often braking later than his competitors and attacking corners with unmatched confidence. However, MotoGP machinery requires a far smoother and more controlled approach. The Yamaha MotoGP bike demands precise throttle control and balanced corner speed rather than sudden aggressive inputs. Toprak has acknowledged that his current riding style puts excessive stress on the tyres, which ultimately reduces grip and affects overall performance.
One of the biggest challenges for the Turkish rider has been adapting to Michelin tyres used in MotoGP. During his successful career in World Superbike, Toprak raced using Pirelli tyres that allowed him to maximize his aggressive braking and acceleration techniques. The Michelin tyres used in MotoGP behave differently and reward riders who maintain consistency and fluidity throughout each lap. Toprak has admitted that while he remains strong in braking zones, he struggles to maintain speed through corners and achieve optimal acceleration out of turns.
Data analysis from Yamaha has reportedly confirmed that Razgatlioglu’s braking performance remains one of his strongest assets. However, his aggressive entry into corners forces him to sacrifice valuable mid corner speed, which is crucial for maintaining competitive lap times in MotoGP. Toprak has expressed his willingness to change his habits and develop a smoother riding technique, understanding that adaptation is essential if he wants to succeed at this level.
The 2026 season is being treated as a learning phase for Razgatlioglu as he continues to understand the complex nature of MotoGP bikes, advanced electronics, tyre management, and race strategies. Yamaha is also working closely with him to adjust bike ergonomics and setup to suit his riding posture and comfort. The team believes that once Toprak gains confidence and experience, his natural talent and racing instincts will help him become a strong contender in the championship.
