Mercedes Little G to Offer Both ICE and EV Powertrain Options

Mercedes Benz is preparing to expand its iconic G Class family with a smaller sibling that will offer both internal combustion and electric powertrain options. Commonly referred to as the Little G, the upcoming model is expected to combine the rugged appeal of the legendary off roader with modern flexibility, giving buyers the choice between traditional petrol powered performance and full electric mobility.

The decision to offer dual powertrains marks a strategic shift for Mercedes Benz as it balances electrification goals with evolving market demand. While the brand has made significant investments in electric vehicles, it recognizes that many customers across global markets still value the practicality and familiarity of combustion engines. By introducing both ICE and EV variants, Mercedes aims to widen the Little G appeal and ensure it remains competitive in diverse regions with different infrastructure and regulatory environments.

The electric version of the Little G is expected to feature advanced battery technology and dual motor all wheel drive capability. This setup would deliver strong off road performance while maintaining zero tailpipe emissions. Instant torque from electric motors could enhance traction on challenging terrain, reinforcing the G Class reputation for capability beyond paved roads. Modern software systems and torque vectoring are also likely to play a key role in optimizing stability and control.

At the same time the internal combustion option will cater to buyers who prioritize long range touring and quicker refueling convenience. Reports suggest that the ICE variant could incorporate hybrid assistance to improve efficiency while maintaining performance. A compact turbocharged engine paired with mild or full hybrid technology would allow the Little G to deliver a balanced combination of power and fuel economy.

Design wise the Little G is expected to retain the boxy silhouette and upright stance that define the larger G Class models. Signature styling cues such as circular headlamps squared wheel arches and a prominent grille will likely carry over to maintain visual continuity within the lineup. Despite its smaller footprint the vehicle is anticipated to offer strong road presence and premium detailing.

Under the skin Mercedes is expected to focus on preserving off road credentials rather than simply creating a lifestyle crossover. A robust platform engineered for durability and capability could set the Little G apart from many compact luxury SUVs. This would position it as a genuine adventure vehicle rather than just a city focused alternative.

The move to provide both ICE and EV options reflects the broader automotive industry transition period where flexibility is becoming essential. As consumer preferences continue to evolve Mercedes appears determined to meet buyers wherever they stand in the shift toward electrification. The Little G could therefore serve as a bridge between traditional motoring enthusiasts and those ready to embrace fully electric driving.
