Heimgartner Praises GR Supra After First Taste Of Toyota Supercar

Andre Heimgartner has shared an encouraging first impression of the Toyota GR Supra Supercar after completing his maiden laps in the new machine as preparations continue for Toyota’s highly anticipated entry into the Supercars Championship. The experienced driver described the initial running as an important milestone, offering an early glimpse into what Toyota could bring to the grid when it makes its full debut.

Speaking after his first on track outing, Andre Heimgartner highlighted that the GR Supra already feels like a strong and promising package, even though it is still very much in its development phase. He explained that the car felt different to what he has driven in the past, particularly in terms of balance and the way the power is delivered, but stressed that these early differences are part of the learning process when adapting to a new manufacturer and platform.

The Toyota Supercar is built around the Gen3 regulations and represents a major step for the brand in Australian touring car racing. Heimgartner noted that while outright performance is not yet the main focus, the foundations appear solid. Early laps were more about understanding the car’s behaviour, how it responds to driver inputs and how the aerodynamics and mechanical grip work together. According to him, these first runs are crucial in giving engineers and drivers a clear direction for future setup and development work.

One of the standout points from Heimgartner’s feedback was the overall feel of the Toyota GR Supra. He suggested that the car already shows good potential, particularly considering it is still early in the testing program. While there is more refinement to come, especially in driveability and fine tuning, his comments suggest confidence within the camp that the Supra can become competitive as development continues.
