Vida from Hero MotoCorp has introduced the DIRT.E K3, an electric off road bike designed for children between four and ten years old in India. The bike is part of Vida's effort to provide young riders with a safe and exciting introduction to dirt biking and off road riding.
The DIRT.E K3 comes with a size adjustable chassis that allows the frame and suspension to be set at three different height levels. This feature enables the bike to grow with the child and remain suitable for several years. The electric bike is powered by a 500 watt peak motor and a 360 watt hour removable lithium ion battery, which provides up to three hours of riding depending on terrain and style. Charging the battery takes approximately three hours and can be done at home.
The bike offers three riding modes with increasing top speeds to match the skill and confidence of the child. Beginner mode is limited to around eight kilometres per hour while the highest mode allows speeds of up to 25 kilometres per hour. A connected smartphone application allows parents to set speed limits and monitor riding activity for additional safety.
Safety features include a magnetic kill switch that stops the motor if the rider falls, a rear hydraulic disc brake, and kid scaled controls for easier handling. The bike has also been recognized internationally for its ergonomic and modular design.
